Double joy for Yorkshire

Have your say

Yorkshire had a superb second day at the Inter Counties Championships at Bedford winning both the men’s and women’s titles.

A string of high places rather than individual victories brought success on a day when atrocious conditions badly affected times and distances. Daniel Gardiner (City of Sheffield) was fifth in the long jump with 7.09 metres while Jordan Carter (Rotherham), 18, was fifth in the javelin.

In the women’s events ex-Rotherham sprinter Louise Bloor (Trafford) was third in the 100ms (11.71 seconds) and there were fourth places for Katie Sockett (City of Sheffield) in the 400 hurdles (62.9 secs) and former Barnsley athlete Adele Lassu (Sale) in the high jump. Yorkshire’s other 400mhurdler, Rosie Marino was denied a final place when she hit the last hurdle.
