Tesni Ward (Sheffield Hallam) won the discus on the final day of the British Universities athletics championships at Bedford.

Her winning throw was 44.58 and it completed a double for the City of Sheffield athletes who won the javelin on the opening day.

Hallamshire’s Dave Archer was in top form in yesterday’s Rothwell 10K road race, near Leeds.

He was runner up to Altrincham international Andy Norman in a time of 31:13.

Despite a strong wind, it was only two seconds outside the Hallamshire man’s best for the distance.

There was a fine run by Hallamshire’s Carl Thackery.

The 48 year old finished ninth in 33:07. Ruth Proctor, also from Hallamshire, was fourth woman to finish in 39:16
