Doncaster Athletic Club’s Great Britain Under-23 international Aiden Davies finished strongly to claim the national senior men’s decathlon title in the England Championships at Bedford.

Davies, who also won the U23 title, ended the first day in second place after finishing second in each of the four events – 100m (11.06 seconds), long jump (12.76m), high jump (1.88m) and 400m (49.61 seconds).

But he had dropped down to fourth on day two, following the 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault and javelin going into the last event.

However, a resounding victory in the 1,500m in a time 4.32.94 saw him claim victory with an overall score of 6,914 points.

Team-mates Ben Burton (senior decathlon) and Laura Chappell (U20 heptathlon) both finished in the medals in their respective Northern Championships.

Doncaster Athletic Club’s Caroline Wheelhouse, 163rd overall in a time of 1 hour 29.36 seconds, won the women’s vet-55 race in the North Lincs Half-Marathon.

Vet-55 Lee Spink (1.23.09) was the first Doncaster AC runner to finish.

Askern’s vet-45 Pete Burke was 62nd in 1.23.22 with Dave Tune (Doncaster Triathlon Club) coming home in 76th place.

Askern’s Phil Tordoff (97th in a time of 1.25.58) also finished in the top 100.
