A massive personal best by Doncaster’s Aiden Davies gave him the silver medal at the English Under 20 decathlon championship at Bedford over the weekend.
In second place behind the outstanding David Hall (Dartford) for virtually the whole of the competition, the Doncaster athlete totalled 6726 for the ten events, almost 400 better than his previous mark. Davies won the Northern title held in conjunction.
Amy Hodgson (City of Sheffield) was just two points away from a medal when she finished fourth in the under 20 women’s heptathlon. Her score of 4573 added almost 200 to her previous best and gave her the bronze medal in the Northern championship, whilst her Sheffield team mate Laura Hanagan was sixth in the senior event with 4498.
In an invitation javelin at the same meeting, Joe Dunderdale (Lincoln Wellington), UK leader this year, won with a throw of 76.04 beating Lee Doran (City of Sheffield) who threw 71.84.
