City of Sheffield gave a lack lustre performance in the second round of the British League at Manchester finishing seventh. They are seventh in the league standings and face relegation.
Luke Cutts was the only Sheffield “A” string winner taking the pole vault but there was an impressive win in the four by 400 metres relay. The successful Sheffield squad was Liam Ramsay, Luke Edwards, Jack Houghton and Tim Burn. Edwards had earlier finished third in the 400 individual race. There was a good run from Sheffield’s Steve Garrett to win the “B” 400.
Waynay Ghebresilasie was third for Sheffield in the 3000 metres and Joe Dunderdale third in the javelin but Sheffield had too many athletes missing.
Double Yorkshire champion Kristie Edwards (Rotherham) was in outstanding form at the South Yorkshire Schools Championships at the Keepmoat, Doncaster. She won the 100 metres in 12.4, going on to take the 200 title in 25.7.
Billie Jo Harris (Rotherham) won the same double in the junior age group with times of 12.9 and 26.9. In the field events Toni Buckingham (Barnsley) won the shot and discus at intermediate level whilst Rotherham’s Leo Rowley also won the shot and discus in the junior boys section.
