Chesterfield twins Alicia and Ella Barrett were again in outstanding form at the England under 17 Championships held at Bedford over the weekend.

Alicia broke her own championship record in the 80 metres hurdles with 10.87, an amazing time and a UK record but for wind assistance.

Ella outclassed the opposition to take the 300 metres title in 39.05. Both passed up the chance to run in second events on this occasion.

Tilly Simpson (Hallamshire) won the under 15 800 metres in 2:13.12 and Ana Garcia (City of Sheffield won the 3K walk in the same age group clocking 15:02.18.

Toni Buckingham (Barnsley AC) was only 9 centimetres away from gold in the under 17 women’s shot with an outstanding effort of 14.31.

There were bronze medals for Joe McGrath (Doncaster) in the under 17 100 metres (10.73) and for Josh Lindley-Harris (Dearne ALC) in the under 15 pole vault with a 3.50 clearance.

Billie Jo Harris (City of Sheffield) did well to finish third in the under 15 girls 100 in 12.23 and was just beaten to the bronze in the 200.

Competition is fierce at this level and James Gormley (Sheffield) ran well for fifth in the under 17 1500 as did another Sheffield runner Alfie Manthorpe, sixth in the under 15 3000.
