Athletics: Teen ace seals fifth place

AMELIA Lancaster was South Yorkshire’s best performer at the English Schools Cross Country Championships at Catton Hall, Walton on Trent, Derbyshire, on Saturday.

Running in the junior girls race, Lancaster finished an excellent fifth with her teammates Mary McCarthy and Mariella De Lara making the top 50. South Yorkshire were seventh.

The best South Yorkshire team performance came in the senior girls race where they narrowly missed out on medals, finishing fourth. Fional Bell led them home in 22nd place with Beth Ansell 38th. There was also a good run by Calvi Thompson who finished 63rd.

Eleanor Curran ran well for South Yorkshire in the intermediate race finishing 41st.
