There is plenty of South Yorkshire interest in the Northern Senior and Junior (Under-20) Championships at Sport City, Manchester.

Hallamshire’s Andy Heyes was narrowly beaten by Leeds City’s Nick Hooker in the Yorkshire 1500 metres and they clash again and also over 800 metres.

Tim Burn (City of Sheffield) probably starts favourite to win the 400m whilst Meles Okbazghi (Sheffield RC) should do well in the 5000 metres.

Other medal prospects include City of Sheffield duo Howard Wood (steeplechase) and Tom Grantham (400 hurdles).

Other leading contenders include Jamie Williamson (City of Sheff) in shot and discus and Luke Cutts (Dearne ALC) in the pole vault.

Sheffield-based Louise Bloor (Trafford) is favourite to retain her 100m title and and in the 200m. City of Sheff’s Karla Drew, runner-up in the English Heptathlon Championship, goes for the 100m hurdles and high jump. Hallamshire’s Nicola Squires contests the 5000m.

In the juniors, Ben Shields (City of Sheffield) will challenge strongly for the 100m title. Tom Bains (Hallamshire),1500m, and Luke Cotter (Rotherham),5000m, compete in the 5000m. Dearne ALC’s Adam Hague and Nick Cole are pole vault rivals.
