Hallamshire’s Andy Heyes ran 3:45 for 1500 metres when he finished fourth in a BMC (British Milers Club) race at Manchester on Saturday.
It was a personal best for Heyes who was disappointed the previous week when he was beaten in the Yorkshire Championship.
City of Sheffield finished third in the second round of the Young athletes League (Premier Division) at Doncaster on Saturday helped by a double in the under 13 hurdles (14.6) and high jump (1.40) by Kaya Walker.
In Division East 1 at Cudworth, Regan O’Connell (Rotherham) scored a superb treble in the under 15 section winning the 100 (11.9), 200 (24.0) and 300 (39.3) whilst another Rotherham athlete, Leo Rowley) won the shot (13.24) and discus (34.58) as well as coming second in the javelin.
Although beaten by Harrogate, Chesterfield lead the division at the halfway stage.
