Rotherham Harriers women finished ninth in a high class race at the English Road Relay Championships at Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield, on Saturday.
Their fastest runner was Steph Burns with 15:10 on the opening stage and she was followed by Sam Johnson (15:14), Natasha Hatswell (16:02) and Laura Spence (15:19). Hallamshire, with Julia Jagger fastest with 15:24 finished 16th.
There was a top ten finish for City of Sheffield in the Under 15 Girls race with Amelia Lancaster their fastest runner with 14:19 whilst other good performances came from City of Sheffield in the under 17 Men (11th) and the under 15 Boys (15th) and from Rotherham, 13th in the under 15 Boys and the under 13 Girls.
* Kenya dominated the Chicago marathon yesterday, which took place amid heightened security following the bombs at the Boston race in April which killed three people.
Dennis Kimetto won the men’s race in two hours three minutes and 45 seconds to break the course record. Kimetto was on pace to break the world record of 2:03.23 but slowed over the final miles.
And Rita Jeptoo picked up a bonus of $40,000 for breaking 2:20.00 by winning the women’s race in 2:19.57.
