A badly weakened team saw City of Sheffield and Dearne finished sixth in the final match of the British League (Premier Division) at Hendon on Saturday.

This gave them fourth place in the final league table.

In truth, there was little to play for. Birchfield, out in front, duly retained their title whilst Sale and Windsor were already doomed to relegation.

Even so, Sheffield wanted to equal last season’s performance when they finished second.

They only had one A string winner, Jack Houghton in the 400 hurdles. Runner up in the English Championships the previous weekend, Houghton produced a strong finish to win in 50.98.

Result: 1 Birchfield 390; 2 Shaftstbury Barnet 313; 3 Liverpool 299; 4 Woodford Green/Essex Ladies 282; 5 Newham and Essex 262; 6 City of Sheffield and Dearne 253; 7 Sale 183; 8 Windsor SHE 178
