TWO men are set to compete in one of most gruelling footraces in the world in 2012 to raise money for two Sheffield charities.

Richard Jones and Ian Wright are aiming to raise £5,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice by taking part in the 27th Marathon des Sables (MdS) next April. The MdS is a weeklong endurance race across the Sahara Desert in Morocco. Runners will trek 151 miles (243km), carrying rucksacks in excess of 11kg on their backs.

As part of their training for the event, Richard and Ian, both aged 39, recently competed in the Percy Pud, a popular 10km race along the Loxley Valley.

Otto’s Moroccan Restaurant and its sister restaurant, The Mediterranean, are sponsoring part of the runners African adventure.
