Scunthorpe Utd v Sheffield Wednesday....Clinton Morrison points out to Owls fans that Chris O'Grady is the man after his two goals

Scunthorpe Utd v Sheffield Wednesday....Clinton Morrison points out to Owls fans that Chris O'Grady is the man after his two goals

Gary Megson has hailed Chris O’Grady’s performance as his best for the Owls after his two goals helped them to a 3-1 victory at Scunthorpe last night.

The £350,000 centre forward took his tally for the season to six having missed the first two months of the campaign through injury.

The third goal at Glanford Park was another cracker from Jermaine Johnson as Wednesday moved level on points with Sheffield United and Huddersfield Town.

Megson said: “It was a great result and an important one coming after we lost to Charlton and drew with Hartlepool. I am a bit disappointed with the goal we conceded but apart from the result the most pleasing thing was that the first two goals came from Chris O’Grady. He got the reward that sometimes he doesn’t get. He was brilliant. He has had some really good games and is a player who thrives on confidence. Our supporters can see what he does and they get behind him.”

The club have problems ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Blackpool though with Reda Johnson, Rob Jones and Lewis Buxton ruled out last night, Buxton with a tight hamstring, but Megson hopes that it was just a legacy of his long lay off.

Daniel Jones came in but was carried off with a calf injury and Julian Bennett missed out with a shoulder problem. Johnson, who went off in stoppage time looking injured, but Megson said it was just fatigue.

Megson was upset at conceding a goal from a corner.

He said: “It was a shocking goal. The ball in shouldn’t have been good enough to score from. We should have won 3-0. We ended up making a game of it.

“Our first goal was a really good one and for the second Chris got in for a set piece. I thought his best chance was his overhead kick that just missed the side of the post. And he was denied by a marvellous save,” said the Owls chief.

Meanwhile Leicester City are thought to be interested in Owls target Ben Marshall.

Wednesday have sold more home tickets than the total attendance at the sty. However, a lot of the pigs did go in fancy dress as a bright red plastic chair. The pigs could not even sell all their their home allocation.

Ah, but Waddle's goal was watched by equal amounts of supporters wasn't it? Don't tell me there was a beam back at Hillsborough that meant you had more fans. Are you having a dinner to commemorate losing in the Final that year? Not sure what you mean UTO, why shouldn't I mention it? I enjoyed it. To be fair I also cheered Whitehouse's goal even though it didn't count for much at the time. When Warhurst equalised in another game one of your many female fans started shouting at me that 'he's a defender too you know'. Clever lot down at Hillsborough, do the girls still go?

If you look at the statistics Wednesday are the best supported team home and away in L1. Wednesday always take a good following away. Unlike the pigs who have only recently started taking a few fans away. We do it, week in, week out. Soon as the grunters lose a few a lot of the pigs will stop going. Did anyone hear the pork beast on radio pig. He stated they would win the leagu, Real Mardy pork boys play the best football and the pigs are to good for the pub league. Only at the stain

I agree Smokey @ 8 the biggest concern for me is the goal difference, Hudders and the massive have 28 and 24 respectively I hope it doesn't cost us in the end. Dick'ead @ 57, only way you deluded ones will get tickets is through wednesday season ticket holders........ So there'll be a handful of numpties (by way of season ticket holders) plus the 4,700 then....DOH!!!!! Oh and BTW it'll be nice if the massive can actually match an Owls home game attendance..... Funny how a dumb blunt all of a sudden changes the attendance from =home to away when it suits........ Last season was all about HOME attendance when they were bouyed by a decent Championship away following!! Banter Blunt you don't want to mention what you have @ 66....... You lot keep harping on about us forgetting the boxing day massacre and to stop living in the past, you'll have all the usual dumb blunts ganging up on you...... Then again you lot don't practice what you preach!!!! LOL. UTO

Dingle Dickie beat me to it but I've watched a fair few derby games in the Wednesday end and have certainly not been on my own when jumping up to celebrate a goal. I think my favourite was Bobby Davison's. That was a great night. I wonder if we will arrange a commemorative dinner in a few years to celebrate it. We probably will if we do naff all for the next 15 years or more. Xxx

http:stats.football365.comdomENGD2attend.html Read it and weep pal. You have a higher percentage than us due to your pokey little shed of a ground but look at the totals, highest attendance and average attendance and strangley the highest capacity, not bad really is it. Oh and take the rose tinted specs off Dingle. Its official http:stats.football365.comdomENGD2attend.html
