FORMER Sheffield United midfielder Lloyd Kerry has agreed to join Chesterfield on a permanent basis.
The 20-year-old who hails from Clay Cross, has signed a two year contract.
He made 13 appearances for the Spireites on loan towards the end of last season, eight of them as starts, scoring two goals in the process.
Kerry originally joined the Saltergate club on the recommendation of Lee Richardson's No.2 Scott Sellars, who knew the skills of the combative player from his own time at Bramall Lane.
The midfielder, who enjoyed a successful spell at Torquay United early in 2007, is Richardson's third new signing of the summer and when added to the deal signed by out of contract Derek Niven, it takes Spireites current squad level up to 11 plus the three first year pro's who've come through the ranks, keeper Dan Whatsize, winger Ben Algar and midfielder Dan Gray.
Two more signings are anticipated this week. Spireites followers are hoping to see a winger added to the squad list.
The club has also indicated that an experienced man from a Championship side is also lined up. I believe he's a player who helped his side to promotion last season from League One.
None of the players freed by Chesterfield this summer have yet found new clubs. Kevin Gray, Adam Smith, Alan O'Hare, Kevin Cooper, Jamie Jackson and Josh Law are still in the hunt for new employers along with Peter Leven, who rejected the offer made to him to extend his stay. Striker Steve Fletcher joined Conference side Crawley Town last month.
Spireites are still awaiting a decision from both Janos Kovacs and Phil Picken. Should either of them move to any club in England, their new employers will have to pay compensation due to their age.
