There'll be no Beijing medallist at Saltergate this season.
Chesterfield defender Aaron Downes has missed out on a place in the Australian Olympic squad having been part of the Olyroos' camp for most of the qualifying campaign.
Despite having bagged a brace last weekend against Chile in a warm up game, coach Graham Arnold has omitted the centre half from his 19 man squad for the trip to China.
Downes is due to fly back to England and will link up with his Chesterfield team mates after the weekend.
Manager Lee Richardson said: "We can understand Aaron's disappointment at not being selected for the Olympics but from the club's point of view there is a positive as Aaron will be here for the start of the season after all."
