SHEFFIELD will once again host the prestigious Premier League Riders' Championship after the success of the last two years.
The British Speedway Promoters' Association have kept faith with Owlerton as the venue for the biggest individual event on the Premier League calendar after bumper crowds packed the terraces in 2008 and 2009.

This year's event is on Sunday, Septem
ber 26 - and Tigers skipper Ricky Ashworth is expected to defend his title.

Even if he is knocked off top spot in the Tigers averages, it would be a major surprise if he wasn't handed a wildcard spot after his amazing success last September.

Sheffield owner Neil Machin said: "It's another feather in the cap for Owlerton Stadium as a venue and great credit must go to our landlords, A&S Leisure, for their investment in improving facilities.

"For us to be staging a British Semi-Final and the Premier League Riders' Championship in the same season is a great honour for the club.

"The event has gone to other venues down the years but none were as successful as Owlerton Stadium. We pull in thousands of fans from across the country and it makes the event a success both on the track and on a commercial basis."

The PLRC is one of seven major events unveiled by the BSPA as part of their Super 7even series which includes the British Final at Wolverhampton, when Ashworth will be hoping to take part.

Tigers will also be hoping to qualify for the Premier League Pairs at Somerset on July 9 - the night before the British Grand Prix at Cardiff - and the Four Team Tournament has switched to Peterborough.
