Things didn't quite work out as he expected when the creative midfielder left Bournemouth to join Preston North End and he found himself languishing in the reserves before Rovers came in for him early last season.

"The Championship is a great league to play in, but unfortunately I didn't spend too long there because I wanted first team football and found it with Doncaster Rovers.

"All the lads here want to help the club get promoted to the Championship.

"We've had a good season and it would be a shame for it to falter at the last hurdle.

"It did at Cheltenham on the last day of the season, but we have another bite of the cherry in the play-offs.

"Nil-nil was a good result for us at Roots Hall last Friday. I think that the most pleasing thing was the fact that we bounced back from the defeat at Cheltenham.

"I think the players' attitude and the way they've conducted themselves at Roots Hall showed that we want to go up.

"It is set up for a good game tonight. The last two League meetings both produced a lot of goals so it was a bit of a surprise that it ended 0-0 last Friday.

"It was a big result because we didn't want to get beat.

"I've experienced both promotion and failure in the play-offs and it's the best deal in the world when you win but the worst when you get beat.

"It is a blow not having Paul Heffernan available, but if we were going to lose a player due to suspension, it was better that we lost a striker because we have got so many of them."
