DONCASTER Rovers No 2 Richard O'Kelly is confident that the Championship club have done a good piece of business by signing Leicester's James Chambers.
Chambers took advantage of a clause in his contract to leave relegated City after 12 months and signed a three-year deal with Rovers on Monday.
Whereas the Rovers management normally do stringent checks on potential signings, that was not considered necessary in Chambers' case.
"I have known him since he was quite young so we didn't have to ring around and talk to people about him,"`said O'Kelly who worked with Chambers during his spell in charge of the West Bromwich Albion youth team.
O'Kelly has kept an eye on Chambers' senior career and feels that he will fill an important role at the club.
Although Chambers is known to prefer right-back, O'Kelly claims: "He can play anywhere across the back or the middle the middle of the park.
"James is quick and aggressive. He also passes the ball well, has got good energy and reads the game well."
"He has also got a good personality and will fit in with everything that we are trying to do, as is the case with Jos van Nieuwstadt
"Jos has settled in well and his family are over here looking around Doncaster and they like the place.
The Dutch defender didn't feature in the club's final warm-up game against Bolton last Friday but he could be in contention for Saturday's Championship opener at Derby.
Said O'Kelly: "He is probably a fair bit behind the others in terms of fitness, but as we saw in the two pre-season games that he played as a trialist that he has got the experience and the know-how to cope with it."
Striker Jason Price, who pulled out of Friday's game, came through a full training session yesterday.
Skipper Adam Lockwood, who had an injection in his groin last week, was out running with a club physio yesterday.
