THERE was no sign of Terry Wogan when South Yorkshire schools staged their own version of the Eurovision song contest.
Pupils from 11 Rotherham primary schools took part in the second 'RotherVision' contest, held at Clifton, a Community Arts School.

While there was no celebrity host, the event did have comperes in the form of school foreign language assistants from France, Germany and Spain. Each school represented its chosen country by performing a song in its language and dressing in themed costumes. Schools also produced a short film each.

Last year the event, organised by Rotherham Council's School Effectiveness Service, won two national European Language Awards presented by The National Centre for Languages.

Shaun Wright, cabinet member for children and young people's services, said: "Alongside the enjoyment pupils get from taking part and preparing for RotherVision, it does provide a great way of promoting and teaching languages in primary schools along with the use of newer technologies such as video conferencing and the Rotherham Grid for Learning."
