A BUSY Rotherham shopping centre should get its own train link says the town's MP.
Denis MacShane has written to South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive calling for a simple station or rail stop at Parkgate Shopping.
The move comes after the MP was told by some constituents that it is easier to get to Meadowhall or Sheffie
ld than Parkgate.
Mr MacShane says a rail stop would help ease serious traffic congestion around the rapidly expanding shopping complex, formerly known as Parkgate Retail World.
But both Rotherham Council and the SYPTE say they have no plans for a station to serve the centre.
Mr MacShane said: "Road access to Parkgate is often clogged up and public transport is limited. Yet a perfectly good rail line runs behind it and I am sure there are many shoppers who would use the train if it stopped there."
A council spokesman said: "We are working together to improve the public transport infrastructure in Rotherham as part of the regeneration of the town which includes continuous improvement to the links between Parkgate and the town centre."
