LUCKY pensioner Sidney Newey is going for a flutter - after winning £500 in a prize draw run by Rotherham Council.
Sidney, aged 72, of East Herringthorpe, had his name picked from a hat of 4,000 council tenants after completing a 'Checking Our Records' survey.

He said: "I was shocked at first. I had to read the letter five times! I already have a holiday booked to Skegness in July, so I intend to spend some of the money there... and a little bit on backing the horses!"

The form asked Rotherham residents their opinions on whether they preferred visiting council staff to use the back door, or knock loudly, or wait longer for a reply. The replies should help the council tailor its services.
