ROTHERHAM MP Denis MacShane has hailed Mahroof Hussain as one of the "nation's rising Muslim politicians" after the councillor was awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours.
Mr MacShane said the award was reward for being a strong community leader and helping locals with their problems.

"I have seen the on-the-spot energy Mahroof has brought to his work as councillor for Boston Castle Ward," said Mr MacShane. "Every constituent got a speedy answer and help in solving their problems.

"Mahroof Hussain has a growing reputation in national political circles as one of the new generation of British Muslim leaders who are sensitive to British needs and British values while supporting the faith of Islam which is an important part of his life.

"I am very proud that Rotherham has a political leader of such quality, and his MBE reflects the national status he now has earned."
