THE silver screen has returned to Rotherham - after more than a quarter of a century.
Rotherham Arts Centre has converted part of its Studio Theatre into a cinema - and plans to screen big name films.

It has already had a trial run - showing the smash hit movie Rocky, which topped the movie charts when the Arts Centre opened back i
n 1976.

There are now plans to put on a series of family favourites and cult classics throughout the summer months.

Part of the Studio Theatre has been fitted with a new screen, projector and sound system.

"I'm sure we've got a blockbuster idea on our hands," said theatre manager Mark Scott. "It's great to be able to bring this kind of entertainment back to Rotherham. The town's last cinema - The Scala - closed in September 1983.

"We decided to open the season with a preview of Rocky because it was the number one film when the Arts Centre opened in 1976. We even handed out free popcorn for the occasion."
