A BUS company that runs services across part of South Yorkshire is to spend £1.5 million on state-of-the art CCTV cameras.
Stagecoach, which operates across Rotherham and the Dearne Valley, has signed a deal which will mean all new buses delivered in 2008/9 will be fitted with the new digital CCTV system.

The company, which took over Yorkshire Traction, is already spe
nding £71 million on 580 new buses across the UK.

Stagecoach uses CCTV on its existing buses - but the new system, known as LOOK CCTV, includes wireless network applications to help maintain the system and streamline repairs, and improved video and audio recording.

Managing director Les Warneford said: "This latest investment is part of our ongoing commitment to the safety and security of our passengers and our drivers.

"CCTV has a proven track record of making passengers feel safe, cutting crime and helping track down offenders."
