As Meadowhall celebrates its 25th birthday, there are some very special members of staff who are also raising a glass to mark their 25th work anniversary at the centre.
Andrew Brown, payroll and personnel co-ordinator, Linda Fogwill, a dedicated cleaning operative, Christopher Ibbotson, the centre’s caretaker; Kenneth Joyce, the longest-serving centre supervisor, Mick Osborne, security manager, Gary Wright, who heads the property services department, and Robert Waller, who is the night supervisor, have all called Meadowhall their place of work for a whopping 9,125 days each.
Meadowhall kick-started its birthday in style yesterday with a weekend full of celebrations planned and at the top of the guest list, of course, are hard-working staff.
Andrew Brown recalled: “My first thoughts of Meadowhall were walking into the total unknown on every level, I didn’t know what to expect.
“After 25 years it’s been more than a job to me, I have met some good people and I am working with colleagues who I now class as very good friends.
“Meadowhall has always been about the people and I love that.”
Gary Wright remembers Meadowhall before it had even opened its doors to the public: “It was like a construction site, I couldn’t believe the size of the place and how busy it was getting the centre ready for
opening, everyone chipped in.
“Meadowhall has been a big part of my life and it has allowed me to enjoy a very good career progression.”
Mick Osborne also added: “I couldn’t get over the size of the place, I remember going to Woolworths and getting lost!
“Meadowhall has played such a big part in my life, it has a big family culture, with varied departments and good people who all work together to achieve the same goal.
“Coming to work here every day is something I like to call a pleasure.”
