Why not come along to our Retro event at Newfield Green tomorrow?
Take a wander down memory lane, meet up with other Retro readers, and share your memories of the local area.
We will be joining forces with Gleadless Valley Local History Group for the event and everyone is invited.
It will take place at Newfield Green Tenants Hall, next to the library on Gleadless Road, from 2pm until 4pm.
It’s a great chance to bring along photos that you would like to see on our pages and enjoy a cuppa with other local history fans.
Retro editor Nancy Fielder will be also be giving a talk about 125 years of The Star.
The slideshow will include events which shook the Steel City as well as a look at how international news was reported locally.
Members of the Gleadless Valley group are also particularly keen to hear from people with information about the area around The Royal Hallamshire Hospital and Weston Park, before the hospitals were built.
They are also on the hunt for memories and old photos of their own neighbourhood, Gleadless Valley, Heeley and the Park district of old.
Anyone with photos or memories of the terrible winter of 1947 is also asked to take those along.
