Another reunion involves two friends who met on National Service.
Last week’s Retro letters page featured an appeal by Alan Kennedy, who lives in Bradwell, Great Yarmouth, and was trying to find his friend Tony Wilson. They met in 1960 while doing National Service together but hadn’t seen each other since 1963.
Alan wrote: “We lost touch many years ago and I have wondered what became of him.”
He knew that Alan had moved to Dronfield and indeed that’s where he still lives today.
Tony droped Retro an email, plus some photographs of the two meeting up.
He wrote: “Alan made several attempts to contact me via his son Ian, the Daily Mail and yourselves and was successful as you can see.
“We had often wondered how he had fared in the last 52 years and was pleased to find things had worked out pretty well.
“By a fortunate coincidence Alan’s grandson Isaac is studying at Sheffield University and Alan’s son Ian was transporting him and some belonging to Sheffield from Norfolk so Alan and his granddaughter Ava hitched a lift and Alan was dropped off at our house so we could meet.
“It was quite emotional after 52 years and we spent a few hours reminiscing about the old days, the intervening years and it was rather special.
“Many emails and photographs have been exchanged over the last few days. Something special for both of us, I’m sure.”
