BARNSLEY failed to kick start their season tonight losing 3-0 away to Ipswich Town.
The Tractor Boys ploughed into the Tykes from the off and Barnsley's normally reliable German goalkeeper Heinz Muller had a night to forget.
Muller gifted the Blues two goals – his poor clearance on 20-minutes going straight to Jon Stead, on loan from Sheffield United, who put Ipswich ahead.
Owen Garvan added a second midway through the second half, at 66-minutes. Muller's nightmare continued three minutes later as he let slip a shot from distance by Spaniard Ivan Campo.
The Barnsley 'keeper's opposite number, Richard Wright, produced three top class saves in the first half.
Ipswich are now two points off the Play-Off places while Barnsley remain entrenched in the relegation zone.
It's too early in the season to right off Simon Davey's men – especially as they impressed with their performance at the weekend, despite a goalless draw.
But their inability to score goals was even more apparent against a strong Ipswich defence.
Reds fans are already missing last season's 14-goal hero Brian Howard, who will leave the club – but not for Sheffield United. That was the shock news earlier today.
The Tykes have rejected United's offer for their 25-year-old midfielder but say they have received an acceptable offer from another club.
