BARNSLEY have no immediate plans to appoint a chairman.
Gordon Shepherd quit as boardroom boss at the end of the season and club owner Patrick Cryne has revealed he is in no rush to find a replacement.
"We need to work on this project of becoming a community club and to define a strategy," Cryne explained. "What you can't do is bring someone in before you work out the strategy. We have to be clear on what we're trying to achieve."
The club want to strengthen ties with the town and have cut season ticket prices in a bid to improve gates. Cryne has been working alongside Barry Taylor, the only remaining director at Oakwell, and general manager Don Rowing.
Cryne added: "Before we address the question of chairman, whether it's me or someone-else, we need to have clear strategy for the club of how this is going to make us stronger.
"I know from experience that if you bring in directors too early, they want to be part of that debate about strategy."
Cryne wants the club to generate more income other than through the turnstiles.
"In the past we've been focussed on cost control. Under Gordon's era you just couldn't do that any better. We screwed down every penny," he explained.
"Here we are a club with no stand sponsors, no ground sponsor and according to the Football League study that was published, the lowest shirt sponsorship deal. If you look at the commercial aspect, it was secondary to getting the costs under control and that was the right strategy for the time after the club was in administration.
