BARNSLEY boss Simon Davey has turned up the pressure on his squad ahead of tomorrow's final friendly with Chengdu Blades.
"They are playing for their places at QPR," he vowed.
Barnsley open their Championship campaign a week tomorrow at QPR and tomorrow's clash with the touring team from China is Davey's last chance to see players in a full-scale game.
He will be without skipper Brian Howard tomorrow. He hobbled out of the midweek match against Wigan with an ankle injury.
A further blow is that Diego Leon has a groin problem and can't play either. New signing Hugo Colace is still struggling with a hamstring complaint and remains on the sidelines.
Despite the problems, Davey has pledged there will be no repeat of Tuesday's 6-0 embarrassment against Wigan.
"That was our first home game in months and it was very disappointing to see," he said.
"It will not happen against Chengdu Blades, I expect a lot better of them. They have been told that it was not acceptable, and we will be better.
Fit-again Luke Steele will be back in goal tomorrow.
Barnsley look set to face Real Madrid starlet Dani Parejo a week tomorrow. QPR have pulled off a major coup sealing a deal for Spanish striker.
The Londoners have agreed a two-year loan deal with Real Madrid for striker Parejo, who is rated as one of the brightest prospects at the Bernabeu.
Arsenal also wanted the 19-year-old but Real have never been interested in selling the Spanish youth international.
Deportivo La Coruna, Espanyol and Osasuna all made offers to take the player on loan.
Meanwhile, last night's UEFA Cup tie at Oakwell drew just 7,334 to Oakwell where Manchester City defeated Faroe Islanders EB/Streymur 2-0.
