PREMIER League Wigan have been put on Barnsley's pre-season agenda.
Manager Simon Davey has arranged for Steve Bruce's team to play a friendly at Oakwell on Tuesday July 29 - 11 days before the start of the new Championship campaign.

So far Davey has also included matches at York City, Rotherham United, Glossop and Buxton in Barnsley's summer timetable. Dates have yet to be announced.

The squad and coaching staff are currently together on a break in Spain.

On-loan striker Daniel Nardiello is with the group. Davey is expected to have talks with players on Friday, and shortly after he will announce whether the club will send him back to QPR.

Davey has joined the call to swell ticket sales at Oakwell next season.

Barnsley have frozen matchday admission prices and cut £10 from the price of season tickets.

Said Davey: "Our supporters have been terrific. They have backed us all the way this year and we have had one of the best home records in the division because of them.

"We now need the people of Barnsley to buy season tickets in their thousands and back us again. We want them to bring their kids, their kids' friends and everybody else down to Oakwell and pack this place out."

He added: "We want Oakwell to be a full stadium next season, one that is hostile for visiting teams. We want the people of Barnsley to get right behind this club and pack out this place for another campaign in the Championship."

Former Barnsley favourite Adie Moses and ex-Oakwell striker Mark Stallard have been released by Lincoln City.

Danny Schofield, Chris Brandon and Frank Sinclair are among nine players being let go by new Huddersfield manager Stan Ternent.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United's prospective summer signings will be subject to psychological assessment.

Aware that the club's impressive finish to the Championship season has increased expectation levels around Bramall Lane, manager Kevin Blackwell insists character and calibre must be afforded equal importance when it comes to identifying future transfer targets.

"We're a big club with big expectations," he told The Star. "It's imperative that anyone we bring in has to be able to handle that.

"We've already got a good squad here - the lads have proved that in recent weeks - so I'm going to go only for players who can make a real difference."
