BARNSLEY have asked the Football Association to make "vigorous" representations on their behalf in a bid to break the deadlock surrounding Hugo Roberto Colace.
The Championship club confirmed this morning they will meet their obligations to the midfielder by continuing to pay him until December when, manager Simon Davey hopes, a decision can be made on the player's long-term future in South Yorkshire.
But Davey, who secured his first win of the season against Derby County on Saturday, has so far been unable to select Colace because the Argentine FA have refused to provide clearance.
The delay has caused fury behind the scenes at Oakwell, not least because two deadlines imposed by FIFA to resolve the matter have passed without incident.
And last night officials there contacted the FA to enlist their help in ensuring the world's governing body force their counterparts in South America to comply.
The Star understands that further talks between Barnsley and Soho Square are scheduled for later today.
Colace, who has previously represented Flamengo, Estudiantes, Argentinos Juniors and Newell's Old Boys, was a member of the Argentina Under-20 team that finished fourth in the 2003 World Youth Championship and has the pedigree to become an important member of Davey's squad.
But the situation is further complicated by the fact that no reason has been given in Buenos Aires as to why they are refusing to ratify Colace's deal.
