IN-FORM Jamal Campbell-Ryce is being tipped as a key player in Jamaica's hopes of maintaining their 2012 World Cup dream.
The little winger was outstanding in Jamaica's shock 1-0 win over Mexico in Kingston in their CONCACAF Group B qualifier as they stunned the side now coached by Sven Goran Eriksson.
It kept alive Jamaica's chances of topping both Mexico and Honduras in their group although they have another must-win game at home to Honduras tomorrow.
"It was a magnificent performance from the whole team," said caretaker coach Theodore Whitmore, who noted a number of individual performances.
"Jamal caused them a lot of problems and that is the sort of form we will need from him again - he is a key player and he was a spark for us," added Whitmore, who is standing in as coach until former Liverpool and England winger John Barnes takes charge officially on November 1.
Barnes watched the game and is understood to have been impressed by Campbell-Ryce's display.
The win puts them onto four points but they must beat Honduras, who have nine points, if they are to keep alive their slim hopes.
Campbell-Ryce flew out to the Caribbean on the back of a brilliant display against Doncaster in which he scored a superb solo goal as the Reds' ten men hit back from a goal down to win 4-1.
The game will not finish until the early hours, British time, of Thursday morning and Campbell-Ryce will fly back on Thursday to prepare for the televised clash at Crystal Palace on Saturday (5.20).
