BARNSLEY striker Jon Macken has admitted he fears for his place in the team if he cannot rediscover his goalscoring touch.
Barnsley have now gone five matches without finding the net and Macken takes his share of the blame for wasted chances.

"Everybody worries for their place in the team. If I'm a centre forward and I'm not scoring, then I'm not doing my job," said Macken, who saw a penalty saved last weekend against Norwichas Lady Luck continued to sneer at Simon Davey's troops.

"We're not getting the bit of luck we need at the moment. It's frustrating for the fans, the management and the players but we've just got to get on with it and keep working hard."

Davey has shown he is not afraid to give youngsters their chance if the likes of Macken, Iain Hume and Maceo Rigters continue to misfire.

Young striker Reuben Noble-Lazarus became the youngest player ever to appear in the Football League at Portman-Road and Macken has predicted a big future for the 15-year-old.

"He is a fantastic prospect. He has got a great left foot. He came on and got his first taste of what it's all about and all he can do is build on that.

"It's good times obviously for himself and for Barnsley when you're producing players like him.

"He has trained with us a couple of times. Obviously he will be training with us a bit more and a lot of the senior lads will help him along and give him advice."

Meanwhile, Macken insisted that the Brian Howard transfer saga has not affected the spirit within the Oakwell dressing room.

"No, it's not affected morale at all," he said.

"At the end of the day that's up to Brian. It's his decision to go and the club's decision to sell him, so it's not affected anybody.

"At the end of the day we are our own people and we've got our own jobs to do."
