MARTIN Devaney's pre-season took another anxious turn with the news that he will miss Barnsley's third friendly of the summer at Yeovil.
The winger, subject of a £150,000 bid by Blackpool, has been ordered to rest for a week.

The thigh strain which ruled him out at the end of last season has been aggravated during pre-season training.

Devaney has already missed the friendlies at Buxton and Glossop.

The players had today off and were due to leave for Somerset on Friday.

New centre-back Darren Moore, goalkeeper Luke Steele, striker Istvan Ferenczi and full-back Marciano van Homoet, who have had treatment for minor problems, are all expected to be in the squad for the match against League One opponents.

Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Kayode Odejayi - both late back for Barnsley's pre-season - will play a part in Saturday's match.

Manager Simon Davey will be back with the squad tomorrow, recovered from the neck injury which has kept him away from Oakwell. He will make the trip to Yeovil.

Meanwhile, Port Vale and Grimsby are competing with Rochdale for Barnsley midfielder Simon Heslop.

The 21-year-old has been with Rochdale on their summer trip to Spain. He could be loaned out to any one of the three League Two clubs.

Former Barnsley goalkeeper Nick Colgan is due to pay for Bradford City tonight in a friendly against Farsley.

The ex-Ireland international is on trial.

He will be in tonight's team alongside ex-Barnsley and Sheffield United striker Michael Boulding, who was a target for Rotherham United.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has revealed his intention to sell the Championship club.

Jordan, who bought Palace out of administration in 2000, says he has grown disillusioned with the game.

The final straw for the flamboyant owner was the recent decision of a Football League transfer tribunal to award the club only £700,000 following 16-year-old John Bostock's move to Tottenham.

Jordan said: "Without a shadow of a doubt, this is my last year."
