CENTRE forward Jamie Cureton wants to use Barnsley to bounce back into Champion ship football.
The 33-year-old goal getter agreed a three month loan move to Oakwell just ahead of deadline this week and admitted: "There were four strikers ahead of me at Norwich three of them are on loan.
"I've not started a game in the last 16."
Cureton a
pproached Norwich manager Glenn Roeder about a temporary move around five weeks ago.
"Me and the manager have spoken; we spoke about different bits and bobs, maybe if it was right to go on loan," he explained.
"No clubs were mentioned, it was just a chat between me and him and if it was best for me and the club that, when I am called upon, if I've been out playing it might be better.
"The gaffer understood my feelings and we just left it really. He was happy to have me but at the same time if the right sort of thing comes up, then we would both look at it and go from there."
He added: "I heard of Barnsley interest through my agent the day before deadline, I had a chat with Simon Davey and agreed to come."
Cureton trained for the first time with new team-mates yesterday and was expected to start this afternoon's match with bottom of the league Nottingham Forest on the bench.
Forest boss Colin Calderwood could lose his job if Barnsley win at the City Ground.
Barnsley boss Simon Davey commented: "Forest will be fighting for their lives and they will stick together. We have to be aware of that. I think we are a more resolute team away from home - we have won two out of the last three away games and should have had something as it was at Preston.
"We have shown mental toughness away from Oakwell and there is a genuine belief in the dressing room that we can go anywhere and win.
"Nottingham Forest are a big club and they have a lot of young players who are finding their feet at this level. When I have seen them they have played pretty well but have not picked up results. We were like that at the start of the season.
"We are probably favourites for the game when you look at the table but this division is not like that and Forest went to Crystal Palace and picked up a result. We have to make sure we are at full tilt if we are going to get the right result.
"We have to be wary of Nathan Tyson and he has been a constant threat in the lower leagues.
"He has had his injury problems but is now getting back to the form and pace he showed before.
"The lad, Garner, is also a good player and Anderson will give them even more pace. We have to make sure we are aware of their threats."
West Ham winger Kyel Reid, who had a spell on loan at Barnsley, has joined Blackpool on loan.
