IT'S a bumper start to the new season at Hillsborough - Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley clash in an opening day South Yorkshire derby.
It guarantees a huge gate for the first day of the season on August 8 and added extra spice to the new season's fixtures.

Sheffield United have a 'big one' to start with too - they go to newly-relegated Middlesbrough. The first home game in The Ch
ampionship for the Blades will be against Watford who this week appointed Malky Mackay as their new manager.

The first city derby meeting is early on - they duo face each other at Bramall Lane on Saturday, September 19. The return at Hillsborough is a late one however - not until April 17, just three matches from the end.

Wednesday's first away clash is at Darren Ferguson's newly-promoted Peterborough and they follow this up with a trip to another of the Championship's newcomers - relegated Newcastle on Wednesday, September 19.

The return with the Tynesiders is Boxing Day which may well ensure a full house at Hillsborough.

United travel to newly-promoted Leicester on Boxing Day and their Christmas home clash two days later is against Preston.

Brian Laws and Russ Wilcox will like the fact that Wednesday's second home game is against their old club Scunthorpe. Their return to Glanford Park is in January.

Neil Warnock won't be back at the Lane until December 12 with Crystal Palace.

Barnsley follow up their Owls opener with an opening home game against Coventry City - which was also the Reds' first home game last season when the lost 2-1. They will host the Blades on November 7 and the first of the clashes with Doncaster Rovers will be at the Keepmoat on October 17 with the return on March 27.

Rovers start with a trip to Watford and their first home game is against Preston.

Rotherham United open up at home to Accrington whilst John Sheridan's first game in charge of Chesterfield will be a long haul to newly promoted Torquay.

The Millers entertain Chesterfield on September 5.

well - after first game there will already be an attendance at Hillsboro that Sheff Utd just will simply not be able to beat all season !

Lets beware the fifth minute of injury time at Middlesborough. That goal in last years corresponding match was the three points difference (apart from all the 'sales' of course) between automatic promotion on goal difference (or two points clear as we should have been awarded the game at Palace as they fielded an Arsenal player!) and more misery in the lottery of the play offs.
Good God, there's more chance of Wednesday doing the double over us (every 94 years and the morons amongst them still 'brag' about it rather than cowering in embarrassment!) than us being lucky enough (and the referees fair enough) to get up through the lottery of play offs.

I shall be watching Zante - but I already know, unless of course Utd threaten to sue Man Utd ( over the fact they share the same name or something ) then take their ground, imagine how many free tickets you could give away then ! - you could extend it past your current crop of as long as you have two eyes policy, in small print, 1, 3 or no eyes also will do for your free ticket !

darnall you give your tickets away too, the big attendance for you will be boxing day (or the last game of the season when you slash all your ticket prices to a pound to bring up your season average

but given you didnt get more than us last season playing the same teams what makes you think you will this year?

(our highest attendance was 30,786)
(your highest attendance was 30,658)

and as you couldnt even sell over 2 thirds of your tickets against us why do you think you will against Barnsley? (I do wonder what the attendance would have been for the derby at hillsborough had you not give us over 7000 tickets....)

The fixtures have been very kind to the blue&white wizards - after the 1st 5 games i can see us on 10-12 points and in the words of SBC - the blunts will need to jog on and catch the big boys!!!

Alien - We did not give away our tickets last season, with your time of going thru facts and figures I would love to know who had the most paying supporters in each game ( not including discount tickets either ), as is every year - when we played you it was on sky which it never is at your ground hence the only reason you get your biggest attendance of the season, in regards to ten pound matches - again flick thru your pages of internet and see who had the most promotions ( sorry bad use of a word if ever there was one ! ) last season - whether or not it be £ 10.00 you charged, season tickets getting them for a fiver or student offers every other match !?!? - also as before I will wager you do not beat our attendance against Barnsley all season at your sty - Fact !

While we are talking about last day games bringing up averages, the only reason you beat our away attendance if your away game at palace, instead of taking your normal 500 you took 8000 ( in the vain hope of promotion ha ha ha ) - which is the only reason you had a higher average than us !
