BARNSLEY manager Simon Davey is committed to making two changes for tonight's Carling Cup first-round tie with Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road and could be set for at least one more.
Marciano van Homoet starts a three-match ban for his sending off at QPR while one of Davey's new signings, Mounir El Haimour, is out with a calf strain.
In addition, Davey may look to sit out at least one of his strikers, with Jon Macken or Iain Hume likely candidates - if not both.
Rob Kozluk appears the obvious candidate to come in at left-back for van Homoet who, Davey hopes, will learn from Saturday's dismissal.
"It was a bad tackle, he knows that, but he's not hot-tempered," said the Oakwell boss.
"It was the first game, it's a passionate time and perhaps he was a bit frustrated, but I'm not condoning it.
"Hopefully, he'll learn from it and now he's got to fight to win his place back.
The situation over El Haimour, who came off with 15 minutes to go with a calf strain, can be resolved by switching Martin Devaney to the left.
"It's two enforced changes and I may change a striker - sometimes, three games in a week right at the start of a season can be gruelling work for strikers," Dave added.
"You want people fresh.
"We have five or six to go at so I have got options and it might be right to give people a chance."
He said both Macken and Hume were under consideration to miss out.
It seems sure to mean a start for Kayode Odejayi while Dutchman Maceo Rigters, signed on a season-long loan from Blackburn, could well figure
too.
"Crewe are renowned for the way they play and they have produced some cup shocks, but I'm confident we can go there and get a result," said Davey.
"We started off last season's cup competitions against clubs below us - Southend were below us in The Championship and we played Darlington in the Carling Cup - and our attitude was spot on. It has to be tonight.
"We don't want to get caught out and we take all our cup games very seriously.
"It's up to us to be professional and do our jobs. We are in a results-based business and we didn't start with a win on Saturday so let's get off the mark tonight."
Crewe started the season with a 2-1 home defeat by Brighton.
