BARNSLEY boss Simon Davey has asked Reds fans to be patient as he seeks to strengthen his squad.
Davey has released a string of players from last season's squad, but as yet has only managed to recruit promising young striker Onome Sodje from York City.
But the manager, whose side started pre-season training this week, knows he still has time
on his hands to find some new players.
"I'm not going to panic. It would be ideal if we'd managed to get a few more new players in by now, but you learn quickly that football doesn't work as an ideal," Davey told The Star.
"We all want fresh faces into the club, we're still working on doing that.
"Of course you'd like the new players to be involved in pre-season training, but I had to wait until two days before the start of the season when I signed Heinz Muller. That wasn't ideal, but you have to deal with those sorts of hurdles."
Davey has made no secret of his desire to sign new players for the new Championship season, which the Reds kick off this year with an away South Yorkshire derby clash with Sheffield Wednesday on August 8.
And ideally a new striker and another keeper are top of Davey's hit list, areas the boss believes the club need cover.
"We're still looking for a striker and we're still looking for another goalkeeper to fill that No 2 goalkeeping spot and push Luke Steele hard for the first team jersey," added Davey.
"Finding another goalkeeper is proving tough, it's not an ideal situation because whoever comes in knows that Luke will be starting the season.
"And we're still looking at finding a striker. We've got Daniel Bogdanovic, Jon Macken, hopefully Iain Hulme, and of course cover with Michael Coulson and Onome Sodje.
"But ideally we'd like another striker for cover, it's a long season and you've got to account for injuries."
