BARNSLEY boss Simon Davey delivered a damning verdict on the 6-0 disaster friendly with Wigan.
"Unacceptable," the Oakwell chief fumed.

Davey spoke out last night following the drubbing by Wigan on Tuesday.

"They are a good side and the finishing was Premier League class but it is just not acceptable to be beaten 6-0 at home by anyone, especially with the record we had at home last year," he said.

Davey made his feelings plain to players after the final whistle.

"The only consolation was that it doesn't matter, it was a friendly with nothing resting on it," he added.

"We're not going to play teams like that every week. You saw the gap between Championship and Premiership. The finishing was frightening. The lad (Daniel de Ridder) scored one with a chip and Marlon King blasted one in."

Teenage goalkeeper Kyle Letheren, standing in for the injured Luke Steele and Heinz Muller, was one of the few to emerge with credit, for his second-half performance.

Davey commented: "They had three shots in the first half and scored three. I felt for the young lad. In the second half he pulled off two or three world-class saves when a lot of lads would have gone under.

"We started the second half well but they scored a fluke and you're thinking, 'here we go again'."

Letheren saved a penalty to prevent de Ridder's hat-trick.

Steele could be back in goal for Saturday's final friendly, against Chengdu Blades at Oakwell.

Oakwell skipper Brian Howard and Diego Leon were both injured in the game against Wigan and did not appear for the second half.

As expected, Hugo Colace did not feature. He has a hamstring problem.
