FOUR-times-promoted Darren Moore will tell his new Barns-ley teammates they're just a step away from the promised land of the Premier League.
Moore arrived at Oakwell on Thursday for the first day of pre-season training and soon made it plain he was looking for a fifth ticket to the top flight.

"They'll talk about all the big clubs but Barnsley is a big club. They were in the Premiershi
p only 10 years ago," he stressed.

Moore, now 34, went up twice with West Brom, with Bradford and the season before last with Derby County.

"It's just about getting the attitude right, going on a run and getting results," he added.

Birmingham-born Moore, who was given a free transfer from Pride Park to sign a two- year deal at Oakwell, almost became a Barnsley player months after manager Danny Wilson led the club to the top flight.

"When Barnsley did get into the Premier League there was a lot of speculation that I was going to be coming to join the club. It just didn't materialise because we couldn't agree a fee," Moore recalled.

Moore is understood to have turned down offers from former club Bradford as well as Championship newcomers Doncaster and Swansea to join Barnsley.

"After speaking to the gaffer, Simon Davey, and the assistant, Ryan Kidd, I had no hesitation to come to Barnsley," he said.

"The gaffer is a young and up and coming manager and what greater time to come? I relish the challenges that lie ahead for this football club. I want to improve as a player even at this stage in my career."

"I know enough about the football club. It's a wonderful set-up.

"There is a great family atmosphere of togetherness."
