BARNSLEY are bucking football's business trend by DROPPING season ticket prices.
The club's bid to expand Oakwell crowds has led to them cutting £10 from last year's season ticket deals and freezing the cost of match day admission next term.
And under the new regime youngsters aged under-11 will be let in free if they are with a paying adult.
Last season saw average crowds around the 10,000 mark although the FA Cup tie with Chelsea was watched by over 22,000 at Oakwell and even more supporters emerged to follow the club to Wembley for the FA Cup semi final.
Barnsley owner Patrick Cryne said: "The club's march to Wembley in this season's FA Cup showed that the town and its outlying communities are proud of their football team and want to be part of it. Taking more than 34,000 fans to the semi-final proved that.
"We want those very same supporters from Kendray to Ward Green; from Staincross to Darfield, to be part of us. Bringing the club and our local communities together in a closer relationship can only be good for all of us and our decision to reduce season ticket prices is a gesture towards this. Together we can achieve success and bring vibrancy to the town."
Supporters Trust chairman Alan Bloore said: "The club have shown a great commitment to the community in this era of rising prices,it's fantastic. For those who say Barnsley should put back some of the cup- run money, this shows that they have."
Bloore added it was the second year in succession that match-day prices have stayed the same.
Season ticket costs will range from £290 at Pontefract Road End to £360 in the East and West Stand upper tiers. Concession prices for pensioners range from £170 to £200. Tickets for juveniles under the age of 18 are £120 in all parts of the ground (£100 if the seat is in the family area).
Matchday prices remain at between £20 and £22 for adults and £6 and £13 for concessions.
