A CELEBRATION day of dance, drama and art was held to mark a Sheffield school's success in coming off the failing blacklist.
Stradbroke's City School was the only secondary in Sheffield to be in special measures, an unwelcome status it held for just over a year.

Assistant headteacher Ken Dunn said the day marked the pupils' excitement that the school was once again on the up.

He said: "The legacy of under-achievement has been largely eliminated and we are out of special measures. Most importantly, however, students now say they are happy and feel safe at school, reporting that behaviour is better and that lessons are more exciting.

"The last twelve months have been a real challenge and the relationships that now exist between staff and students have become the foundation for the school's recent success."

Inspectors now rate the school as 'satisfactory with many good aspects'. Last summer, it recorded its best ever GCSE results and was found to be improving in inspections last September and in January.

I went there, it was a shame they had a bad run of headteachers who let it go to the dogs somewhat.
It needs a head like Gabbani again, a head who will do HIS best and stay there a long time.

The school is recovering from the previous headmistress, one Julie Warne, who in my opinion was as useless as the proverbial chocolate teapot!
Both my children were schooled there, & following the change of leadership from Ed Gabani (great bloke) to Ms Warne, the all-round standards & reputation of the school began to steadily decline.
Mr Gabani's opinion was, "While ever a child was wearing the uniform of The City School, the school would take action re; any reports of bad behavior, vandalism, etc, during the individuals journey between school & home/visa-versa".
Ms Warne was content with, "They're (pupils) no longer our responsibility once they've left the school premises"..
Sounds like the place is in good hands once again.
