A SWIMMING pool received the royal seal of approval yesterday when Princess Anne unveiled a commemorative plaque at the new facility.
The pool has just been installed at Ashgate Croft School in Chesterfield following a £1 million appeal started by the parents of 10-year-old pupil Megan Carver.

Ashgate Croft School, on Ashgate Road, is the largest of 10 special schools in Derbyshire and offers a full range of opportunities for students, aged two to 19, with special needs.

The new pool is fitted with specialist equipment to enable pupils to enjoy its therapeutic benefits.

Princess Anne visited the school to have a look around the new facility and see first hand the benefit it offers youngsters. She also unveiled a commemorative plaque in front of pupils, staff, parents and fundraisers.

She was greeted by youngsters from the school who waved Union Jack flags to mark her arrival.

"Staff and pupils were thrilled to be welcoming the Princess Royal into our school," said headteacher Michael Meaton. "It is a great honour, one which we know our pupils will remember for many years to come."
