The little Spaniard came on at half-time for skipper Brian Howard and shone on a grey, dismal Saturday in the Derbyshire town.
Barnsley were transformed from poor to potent by the Leon who relished a central midfield role and brought the best from those around him.
Having played the night before at Buxton it was an unfamiliar Barnsley line-up which started at the windswept little ground.
Only eight minutes in and they were trailing. Right back Dave Young, drilled a low freekick into the box from 20 yards, it fooled everyone, keeper Kyle Letheren included.
Barnsley failed to find a response and were 2-0 down 11 minutes before the break. Centre back pairing Luke Potter and Rob Atkinson were at fault and as the ball cleared the pair of them, there was centre forward Dave Hodges in the clear to score from eight yards out.
Barnsley's one half-time change - Leon for Howard transformed the game. Inside two minutes Leon had hit the crossbar from 25 yards.
Andy Johnson hit the post and a Bobby Hassell shot was deflected onto the woodwork before Rob Kozluk headed Barnsley's first, connecting with a Leon cross.
The equaliser came from Jamil Adam. Again the assist was from man of the match Leon.
Barnsley: Letheren, van Homoet, Potter, Atkinson, van Kozluk; Hassell, Johnson, Togwell, Howard (Leon 46 minutes), Butterfield, Adam.
