BOOMSHANKA! Showing they had all the right moves and certainly the most colourful costumes, these Sheffield tribal bellydancers got everyone at Sharrow Festival in the mood as they took to the stage.
Liz, Ruth, Rosie and Cis insist belly dancing is for ladies of all ages, shapes and sizes and had the crowd cheering for more.

"We organise belly dancing classes in Meersbrook and Hillsborough and, yes, since Sophie from Sheffield appeared on Britain's Got Talent more and more people are showing an interest," said Rosie.

"Everything about belly dancing is great fun – it's not just the moves and the music, it's also the costumes, the jewellery and the make up."
In keeping with the global theme, the festival offered visitors the chance to enjoy music and food from around the world.

On stage the entertainment ranged from music from Congo and Zimbabwe to local breakdancers and blues, hip hop and folk.

Bhangra star Tariq Khan, whose debut album Sugar 'n' Spice sold more than 40,000 copies, headlined on the main stage and a hip hop zone attracted dozens of graffiti artists.

When revellers felt a little peckish breadmakers Pete David and Sally Smith were sharing their wares with people who also tucked into beefburgers, jerk pork and several kinds of curries.

Crafts from all over the world were also on show - so seven-year-old Megan Lindenstruth, from Broomhall, headed straight for the tent set up by Shehper Rehmanfrom NS Hair and Beauty because she fancied a Henna tattoo.

A Sharrow Fringe Festival is running until Saturday with a programme of events in an around London Road including a night of cabaret at Cafe Euro on John Street on Thursday.

The website www.sharrowfestival.org provides full details of all events.
