THOUSANDS of people flocked to the 10th annual Abbeyfield Park Multicultural Festival and enjoyed a host of shows, events and stalls.
Gary Smith, of organisers Green City Enterprises, said: "We've had a nice event, with a lot of people attending. There were queues to get in when we opened at 1pm.

"It was well attended, predominantly with families."

Mr Smith estimated at the busiest point, as many as 5,000 people were at the festival, but many more had come and gone during the day.

The programme of events included performances by belly dancers, local DJs and musical groups Bison and Siyaya, both of which have just played the Glastonbury Festival.

There were also demonstrations of dance, circus skills, boxing and kung fu, a history tent to mark a decade of the festival, plus stalls and a market.

Green City said it will press ahead to try to find £30,000 needed to stage next year's event despite the axing of its annual grant from Burngreave New Deal for Communities regeneration agency, which had put future festivals in doubt.
