SHEFFIELD Wednesday are achieving their aim of giving opposing teams something to think about.
Tactics and personnel have varied over the first three games of the season.
And Preston admit that they have been kept guessing in the build-up to today's match at Hillsborough.
It is boss Brian Laws' declared policy to make the opposition unsu
re and leave them wondering about the Owls' approach.
What do you think? Post your comments below.Deepdale manager Alan Irvine admitted: "We are not sure how they will line up. So we certainly have to be prepared for any eventuality."
The Owls sprang a tactical switch on Wolves last week, changing from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1, while also reverting mainly to regular personnel after making five changes for a midweek cup tie against Rotherham.
Irvine believes that Wednesday's injury problems - set to continue for some time yet - make it even more difficult for the opposition to tell what Laws is going to do.
The Preston chief feels that the Owls are capable of giving many a team a severe test at Hillsborough this season, and today he was hoping that his team could avenge their 2-1 defeat at the stadium on New Year's Day.
"We are hoping we can build on what we have done so far," said Irvine, with his team having won their first three league and cup games of the campaign.
"But Sheffield Wednesday is another hard game. Everyone knows how difficult it is to get a result at Hillsborough."
Preston look set to be without defender Callum Davidson, who could be back to face Derby in Tuesday's Carling Cup second-round tie at Deepdale, after a knee injury ruled him out of Scotland's match against Northern Ireland this week.
