RICHARD Hinds was today set to play his first Owls game in more than four months.
The defender is pencilled in for a comeback in the Reserves against Walsall at Hillsborough (2pm).

It is the latest stage in his remarkable recovery from serious injuries suffered in the Championship match at Wolves on August 16.

He was carried off with a leg fracture and ankle damage and it was estimated that he would be out for up to eight months.

But he fought back to full training before Christmas and has been yearning to play in a game.

Club medical staff advised that he should not rush back too soon but now it is felt that the time is right.

The plan is for the 28-year-old to play for just the first half today and build up from there. It could be that he will get further Reserve team football before rejoining the first-team squad.

But regardless of the timing of any senior comeback, manager Brian Laws will be pleased to have the versatile former Scunthorpe man back at a time when the squad is depleted by injuries.

Today's game should have been played at Stocksbridge - the regular venue for home reserve games - but the Bracken Moor pitch is frozen and it was switched to Hillsborough yesterday.

Meanwhile, the initiative from new directors Lee Strafford and Nick Parker to strengthen links with fans goes on, with a Hillsborough ban on John Hemmingham lifted, and a meeting with fan forum Owlstalk set for tomorrow.

There have already been meetings with Wednesdayite and the Shareholders Association.

Hemmingham was a guest of the club at last Saturday's match against Fulham, and earlier last week met Strafford and Parker at their invitation.

The former Kop band leader and chief executive of the Owls Trust (now Wednesdayite) was barred from corporate areas at Hillsborough five years ago in controversial times after Ken Bates tried to take over the club. Hemmingham is now chief executive of Mansfield Town but remains a Wednesday season-ticket holder.

Good news about Hinds. He's not brilliant but he tries hard and will bolster the squad.
Couldn't care less about Ken Bates Jnr, just so long as he doesn't bring that god awful band back with him. It was OK for a while but the novelty soon wore off and it totally killed the atmosphere, because nobody sang they just left it up to the band.

I disagree. Yeah the band was loud however killed the atmosphere?? No high prices and poor performances killed the atmosphere, the band encouraged singing which boosted fan spirit and on the odd occasion got behind the team and helped them too. If the band is good enough for England its good enough for us.
Up The Owls

really pleased for hind's , shows just how keen he is to play again so soon after a really bad injury . lets hope a few more follow his example asap !
please don't bring back the band . we were rubbish last time around with them .
and don't whinge about falling gates due to high admission charges ...18,000 on saturday against top flight opposition and ticket prices at £15.00 and £5.00 what more of an incentive do people need to come to s6 ?

Mr Foley,

Why on earth are the club pandering to someone who turned his back on Wednesday in favour of Leeds and Bates? Me and mates get to over 40 games a season, every season, and no-one invites us to get in free.

It's not simply the act of lifting the ban that is important - it is the GESTURE behind it that is significant in signalling an end to the old regime. Lets all look forward to better times ahead.

Please don't bring back the band.

They are sodding awful and kill the atmosphere. They play and the crowd don't sing.

Ban the band from Hillsborough - They are embarrassing.
