Owls in Wood battle

SHEFFIELD Wednesday will not encourage any move for defender Richard Wood.
Coventry City manager Chris Coleman is believed to be an admirer of the young central defender and the Sky Blues are understood to be interested.

However, Wednesday boss Brian Laws will not encourage any pursuit of Wood who regained his first-team spot late last season after three months out following surgery on a dislocated shoulder.

Wood's performance in the goalless draw at Coventry on March 15 is believed to have caught the eye of Coleman, the ex-Fulham boss who played in centre defence for Wales.

There has been speculation in the Midlands that Coventry are interested but Laws commented: "It's news to me."

He is not about to encourage any pursuit of the player who linked up successfully with Mark Beevers on his return to action in February.

The latest on the Owls takeover saga suggests that completion may not be far away, with the Geoff Sheard-led consortium poised to sort matters out, probably in the next week or 10 days.

After suggestions that Laws' position could be under threat with new owners looking to install their own man, it now seems likely that Laws will receive a 'carry on' message.

Meanwhile, it will be a new-look Burnley side that comes to Hillsborough on the opening day of the season after the Clarets made a fourth signing this week.

They have captured former Dundee United defender Christian Kalvenes on a Bosman transfer.

The Norwegian left-back, 31, has penned a two-year deal.

Does this guy pretend to be an Owls supporter? No way any of these lads would want or be allowed to leave. We need this type of pessimism at the start of the season like a hole inthe head.!!

one thing we all seem to agree on is that we might just have the best back 5 in this league . now , if we can all see that surely the powers that be will not allow such a vital cog in the machinery to leave .

am talking the truth, thats all, sheffield wednesday as a club are going nowhere fast, its as simple as that, feel sorry for the fans who have paid a lot of money for a season ticket and people who pay on the gate 2 watch rubbish, and that back four wont be in place for the start of 2009/10 season, cos we will sell them like we have with brunt and whelen and where are they, in the premiership, wake up and smell the coffee........

maygurney owl / barnmeg1 , get a grip . all close season you have been totally negative . give laws a chance to assemble his team which will include all the current back 5 . theres no way he will let any of them go anywhere as they are the backbone of what is potentially a useful looking team in the making .
you guy's must be fun standing next to on the terraces .
i bet one of you was the b....r who burnt me with his cigar on the kop when mellor popped one in on a certain boxing day or did you think we were a c..p team then aswell ?
